Nutrition coaching is NOT about: rules, judgment, ‘meal plans’, or skinny tea.

Nutrition coaching IS about: sustainability, motivation, personal growth, and willingness to learn.

This is why it’s called Show Your Work. We work toward your health, performance, or body composition goals in a way that can both succeed in the short term AND endure for the long term. Our focus is on the PROCESS, with the aim of developing the tools for you to confidently navigate whatever nutritional situations may arise throughout the future course of your life. (If I do my job well, you won’t need me forever! 😉)

Three things set me apart as a nutrition coach:

(1) HIGH-TOUCH. We aren’t about generic templates or repetitive forms completion. At Show Your Work, your coach is in your pocket — we’ll text three days a week, and you have 24/7 access to ask questions or share updates.

(2) MEDICAL TRAINING. Although the nutrition coaching provided by Show Your Work is not operated under my medical license, my training allows me to responsibly work with individuals who carry medical diagnoses, as well as recognize when something is abnormal and may merit medical investigation. (Those who live in North Carolina also have the option to enroll as direct-access primary care patients, which means I can legally deliver medical care over telehealth — video visits, labs, and prescriptions, including for GLP-1 medications when indicated.)

(3) REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE. As an athlete, I have plenty of anecdotal experience managing my own nutrition — but my role as a patient-facing clinician is where I’ve learned the most about individual variation and how to blend compassion with objectivity. Nutrition coaching involves everything I love about clinical medicine — working closely with individuals, digging into their psychology, using my knowledge to help move them toward their goals — while NOT having to worry about productivity targets, RVUs, or health insurance. Procedures don’t interest me; PEOPLE do.

Credentials: I completed my physician associate (PA) degree at Duke University in 2012, and worked as an outpatient clinician for ten years thereafter (family medicine, pediatric urology, and retail health). I completed an intensive yearlong nutrition course from M2 Performance Nutrition during the height of the pandemic, and am now a M2PN-Certified Nutrition Coach. (Their coursework covers practical aspects of coaching as well as deep dives into metabolism, gut biology, and hormone health — far more intensive than anything I learned about nutrition in PA school!) Show Your Work Nutrition was born in September 2021, and the “& Healthcare” was added in January 2024.
